KehTing, partnering with Eightfold Coffee Shop, is excited to invite Los Angeles-based artists to submit their artworks for a group exhibition at Eightfold Coffee’s Echo Park location, running from August to September 2024

This exhibition, themed “A Moment with Pets,” celebrates the moments when we feel supported, loved, accompanied, or playfully trolled by our furry (or not so furry) friends. This exhibition is also dedicated to the frequent fluffy visitors of Eightfold and those patiently (or not) waiting for their humans to return home from a coffee run. A part of the proceeds from this group exhibition will be donated to a local animal shelter.

“No cat purrs unless someone is around to listen.”

The Tribe of Tigers, Elizabeth Marshall Thomas

“One of my favorite things to do was to learn new tricks, as the boy called them, which consisted of him speaking to me in encouraging tones and then feeding me treats.”

A Dog’s Purpose, W. Bruce Cameron

Artists are invited to submit artworks that extend beyond simple portraiture, encapsulating the unique interactions and connections between pets and their human companions. All works submitted by 11:59 PM June 30th, 2024 will be considered.

Please see below for more submission details.

About KehTing

This exhibition is curated and organized by KehTing, an independent curatorial collective.

KehTing [客厅/Kètīng/living room] translates to living room in English. However, the literal meaning of living room is a space for living, while the literal meaning KehTing/客厅 is a space for hosting guests. The definitions are over-simplified, yet in each culture this space in a home embodies much more. Living between English and Chinese speaking cultures, Jiayi Hou and Yumu Huo found themselves relating to both of these meanings. The Los Angeles based curators met during their Master’s program in curatorial practice and co-founded KehTing – a curatorial project that extends their living room as an exhibition space to host guests – artists and friends who create and thrive through art.
